Description: The Mankumban Mosque was constructed near Jaffna in the north an historical Portuguese and Dutch stronghold in Sri Lanka. An area with largely a Hindu population this building attracted people from all religions. M. R. Bawa Muhaiyaddeen a Sufi Mystic who believed in going beyond the separations of religions with the help of Sri Lankans and western devotees completed construction in the early 1980's. This photo was taken in Jan. 2005. This area is now in dispute between the Sri Lankan government
